Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival

Arrive at Kathmandu airport, our representative wil pick you from there and transfer to Hotel.
Trip briefing in evening at 7:00 pm. Dinner & overnight stay in 3 Star Hotel (Hotel Vaishali, Manang or similar).

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing

After Breakfast, Kathmandu sightseeing which covers Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Jal Narayan Temple & other places. Preparation & packing for Yatra in evening. Overnight stay in 3 Star hotel (Hotel Vaishali, Manang or similar)

Day 03: Kathmandu to Dhunche or Syabrubesi

After breakfast we will drive to Dhunche (2000m / 130 km / 6 hrs) or Syabrubesi (1600m / 145 km / 6.5 hrs). Overnight stay at Guest House.

Day 04: Drive to Kyirong County

Drive to Rasuwagadhi (1800m / 15 km / 45 min from Syabrubesi.  Immigration & custom formalities will happen here in Nepal & Tibet side at Rasuwagadhi. After immigration continue further drive to Kyirong county (3950m) – 3 hrs / 105 km. Overnight stay Guesthouse

Day 05: Acclimatization Kyirong County

Entire day free for acclimatization. Short treks may be taken in preparation for the Kailash Yatra trek.

Day 06: Drive to Dongba

After Breakfast, drive to Dongba (335 km – 7hrs) en-route passing Thorong La, Paigu-Tso Lake and Brahmaputra River.
Overnight stay at Hotel ( Xixa pangma, Mu bing Chung or similar).

Day 07: Dongba to Mansarovar Lake

Early morning drive for Mansarovar Lake (7hrs) crossing beautiful places & complete Parikrama of Mansarovar Lake by vehicle (2 hrs-110 km). Overnight stay at guest house near the shore of the Holy Lake.  Today you get first view of Holy Shrine Kailash.

Day 08: Lake Mansarovar to  Darchen

Witness the divinity of Mansarovar lake in early morning, take holy bath in afternoon and perform Puja (prayer ritual) at Mansarovar Lake. After completing holy bath, we drive to Darchen (2hrs. Overnight stay in Guest House.

Day 9: First Day Parikrama of Mount Kailash.

After short drive from Lake Mansarovar you will reach at Asthapad if permitted by Chinese  authorities otherwise drive to Yamdwar and trek to Dirapuk ( 10 KMS first day Parikrama). You get blessed with darshan of North Face of Mount Kailash during first day of Parikrama which is considered to be most auspicious. Those who are not doing Parikrama will travel from Yamdwar to Darchen for approx. 30 minutes and stay there in Guest House for 2 nights. You can see & pray to Mount Kailash from Darchen.

**Parikrama is optional. There are few who would be doing Parikrama by walk, few by horse & few old age people may not be doing Parikrama. Those who are not doing Parikrama will return from Yam Dwar to Guest House at Darchen. We will arrange meals & accommodation there. Holy Mount Kailash is easily visible from there & one can do puja from there too. People staying at Darchen will join other group members in 1st half once they complete 3rd day of Parikrama.

Day 10: Second Day Parikrama of Mount Kailash

Early morning start trek from Dirapuk to Dolma La Pass and then Zuthulpuk. Total trek is of 22 KMs on second day of Parikrama. This is the most difficult part of the journey in throughout the yatra since you have to trek up to the 18,600 ft height above sea level. From Dolma La Pass descend to Gauri kund and further trek along with the river to Zuthulpuk. Overnight stay – Lodge / Guest House.

First 6-7 KM (till Dolma La Pass at 5600 m) of 2nd day has very steep climb & most difficult part of Yatra. Yatris are advised to take comfortable time to cover it & take rest wherever you feel problem. After 1st 6-7 KM, remaining 16 KMs are comparatively plain / downwards & comfortable. 

Important: Parikrama (Day 2). You will pass through Shivasthal (Sacred place for Tibetans & believed that whatever you offer here, get it in Heaven) & Gauri Kund.  After Dolma La Pass its long pleasant trekking way beside river. You will see East face of Mount Kailash here.

Day 11: Drive to Dongba

Third day Parikrama is of approx. 8 KMs & takes around 3 Hrs to complete. Generally we complete id by 9:00-10:00 am. After completing Parikrama we will drive to Darchen and merge with other members and then drive to Dongba. Overnight stay inHotel (Xixa pangma, Mu bing Chung or similar).

Day 12: Dongba to Kyirong

Start driving to Kyirong County – 270 km / 5.5 hrs. Overnight stay at Guesthouse

Day 13: Drive to Kathmandu

Drive back to Kathmandu via Rasuwagadhi border after completing immigration formalities. Total driving is around 8-10 hr / 265 km. Overnight stay at
3 Star Hotel (Hotel Vaishali, Manang or similar).

Day 14: Departure from Kathmandu

After breakfast you are free till your flight time. We will drop you at Airport 1-2 hour before flight time (30 mins drive).

What is the Age Limit for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra:

Minimum 18 years & Maximum 70 years as on 1st January 2018

How much luggage allowed for Kailash Yatra:

Carry minimum & light luggage. Most of the flights have limitation of 20 kg / 45 lbs . While returning, you will carry holy water of Mansarovar Lake which may vary from 1 kg – 5 kg. Don’t carry cloths for each day. After starting from Kathmandu for Mount Kailash, you will get hardly one chance to change your cloths.

How to get TIBET PERMIT / CHINESE VISA for Kailash Yatra:

Tibet Travel Bureau issues permit for Shri Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. We require colored soft copy your valid passport (min 6 months validity from Yatra date) to initiate Tibet Permit processing. For VISA process, Indian residents need to send their valid passport to our Delhi office, at least 1 month before journey date. NRIs /Foreigners from other locations need to carry it to Kathmandu where our representative will collect it for VISA processing. Chinese authority doesn’t issue individual VISA & issued as group VISA for Shree Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. It’s issued on paper & there is no stamping on passport.

TTB (Tibet Travel Bureau) has full authority & final authority for issuances of travel permit. In recent times, we have observed smooth permit procedure still company doesn’t hold any responsibility for deny / delay as its their discretion. We always try to make clear communications all points.

WEATHER at Mount Kailash:

May – September is best time to be there. During day time, it’s pleasant but nights are cold. Temperature ranges from 20 - 5’c. Generally May is 1st month for Yatra & many devotees prefer to go in May. Initial week of May has snow there & a bit cold. June goes smooth, July is rainy season there so Helicopter route is almost chocked. Again its starts in August & continue till September. Days are very comfortable in these months but nights are usually cold. Above all these information, one need to understand that weather keeps on changing there so need to be prepared for all such conditions in any month.

Which Currency is accepted at Kailash Mansarovar Yatra


Indian currencies, except Rs. 500 & Rs. 1000 are widely accepted in Nepal. It’s advisable to carry Rs. 100 notes for Nepal. 


Only CNY (Chinese Yuan) is accepted in Tibet. You can exchange your INR or USD into CNY at Kathmandu or Kodari (Nepal - Tibet Border). Majority of the people prefer to exchange currency at Kathmandu / Lucknow / Purang.  It has been observed that your international debit cards & ATM cards don’t work/accepted at most of the places so its advisable to carry approx 3000 CNY/ person in cash to meet any exigency requirements. Excess CNY can be converted to INR/USD at Purang while returning.

Rest Locations in Nepal : 3/4 Star in Nepalganj in Helicopter packages, Standard hotel / Guest houses in Overland package.

Tibet Locations : Hotel Purang in Purang (Helicopter route), Guest houses / Lodge at all other places.

TOILET FACILITY in Kailash Mansarovar Tour:

Toilets are available wherever Hotel accommodation is there. Since Trip To Temples offer 2 days Hotel accommodation at Purang (in Tibet Part) so gives more comfort. Guest Houses are having basic toilets which may not be up to the mark.

FOOD during Mount Kailash Tour:

Hygienic vegetarian meals (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) is served throughout the journey. Normal & Hot water will be served with meals. We have got a kitchen setup there ar guesthouses & fresh meals are prepared there as per group size. 

MEDICAL FACILITIES at Kailash Mansarovar:

There will not be any full time doctor/medical with group. As & when required, Liaison Officer / guide manage it on best possibility. On Tibet side, decision of Liaison Office will be final in all circumstances. We recommend you to be sure about your physical fitness & health. To ensure you, it’s advisable to go through medical checkup & work on fitness & yoga. Company doesn’t hold any responsibility for any mis-happening due to non-disclosure of any disease/weak physical fitness/etc. 

Caution: Use of any medicine without proper medical consultation may be harmful or even fatal at such high altitude. We strongly recommend you to carry recommended medicines by your qualified doctors. You should take advice on recommended medicines on this site too 


Due to high altitude, there is lower atmospheric pressure & lower oxygen density which results in High Altitude Disease. The major symptoms are nausea, headache, vomiting, breathlessness, disturbed sleep. We recommend you to Google on symptoms, precautions, remedy & prepare accordingly. 


You will get good mobile connectivity throughout journey on roaming. Each Liaison Officer & our guide carry mobile phones for exigencies. In Nepal & China, at both locations you can buy local sim by submitting passport copy. In overland route, most of the places during journey in Nepal & some places in Tibet, you get PCO for making calls to your respective countries. Calling through PCO is comparatively cheaper. PCOs are not available in Helicopter route. If you are carrying your phone on roaming, ensure to deactivate your internet connection which has been witnessed very costly. 

Cancellation & Refund Policy for Kailash Mansarovar Trip:

It is our most important aim that you enjoy your holiday and that we earn your trust. However, we are not responsible for any cancellation due to any industrial disputes, Technical failure of any type of transport we use, loss of earnings, late arrivals or force majeure, or any items beyond our control. After booking, if you wish to cancel your trip, you must notify Trip To Temples. in writing. Once Trip To Temples. receives your notice, cancellation will take effect subject to the following:

If cancellation takes place in between 90 – 150 days prior to your departure date, your full payment will be refund except the non-refundable deposit of USD 300 | INR 15000 for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra & USD 300 | INR 10000 or 20% of Package Cost, whichever is higher for other destinations.

If cancellation takes place in between 30-90 days prior to departure 75% of your payment will be refund except the non-refundable deposit. 

If cancellation takes place less than 30 days prior to departure due to client’s personal problems, all previously paid amount(s) will be forfeited. 

Medical Procedure For Kailash Yatra:

You need to submit fitness letter from any MBBS doctor before Yatra.

Risk & Liabilities associlasted with Kailash Mansarovar Yatra:

We always put effort to make your journey smooth and pleasant. However as all the Tibet tours and treks run strictly under Tibet Tourism Bureau. Sunny Travel or its Tibet counterpart agent shall not be responsible for any alternation or cancellation of program due to any unavoidable circumstances beyond control such as road blockade, landslide, snow, political unrest, cancellation of flight, delay arrival, lack of transport, visa rejected by Chinese authorities, sickness or accident. Any extra cost incurring there of shall be borne by the clients on the spot. Since Tibet is very remote place and road are very rough sometime good vehicle may braked.

We highly advise clients to have full insurance against medical, trip cancellation and personal accident risk. 

DO’S & DON’TS in Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

  • Treat the mountains with respect & don’t show your heroism there.
  • Walk in rhythmic pace, it will save you from early tiredness & accidents.
  • Drink a lot of water during trekking. Liquid diet will always help you. Keep 3-4 packets of electrol to be used during Kora (Parikrima). 
  • Apply sun cream on exposed body parts, especially during Kora (Parikrima).
  • Mansarovar Lake water is usually very cold & if your body doesn’t allow, then don’t go far bath there. Sprinkling Mansarovar Lake water on body is believed equally to bath.
  • Trek in small groups. Trekking alone may result in risk.
  • Liaison Officer is supposed to be most experienced person for journey. All must follow his instructions in all circumstances.
  • Make sure to take proper meals throughout journey. Liquid diet will give you strength.
  • Don’t carry heavy bag pack during Kora (Parikrima).
  • Never consume Alcohol during Journey.
